First blog about tutoring….from a tutor who has tutored for 29 years

Right of the bat, I am an Enginear (purposely misspelled), meaning I am not an eloquent writer.

I have been tutoring math and science for over 29 years.  The first “paid” tutoring job I accepted was tutoring a peer while a senior in high school.  At that time I had helped others peers during class time and after school, but it was never a paid gig.  Since then I have been tutoring in various capacities.  In college I ran a math “office hours” for a private dorm, basically anyone who needed math help would come in.  After college, while looking for a professional job (as an engineer) I would tutor at night to start paying the bills.  I really enjoyed it.  I have always enjoyed teaching, and seeing the “ah ha” moment.  After I started my professional career, married, had kids, got an MBA, I didn’t tutor much.  Then a bout 5 or 6 years ago I started back up.  Always difficult to balance career, family, hobbies, fitness and then trying to fit tutoring (and water polo officiating) gets to be quite difficult.  But now as my youngest is headed off to college I am looking at tutoring more, and looking at venturing into the world of virtual/online tutoring.

Not sure how long blog posts are supposed to be but I feel like this is a good stopping point for now.
